INTERIOR CS KIPCHUMBA MURKOMEN HOLDS MEETING WITH SDCS LEADERSHIP

Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Tuesday held a consultative meeting with the leadership of the State Department for Correctional Services in a strategic push meant to enhance service delivery and realize envisaged reforms.
The meeting, attended by Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco, reviewed the department’s ongoing priority projects including digitalization, commercialization of prison industries, and planned relocation of some prisons to free up land for public development programmes as well as legal and policy review.
Speaking during the engagement, the Cabinet Secretary said it was important to constantly engage with technical persons within respective departments to strengthen policy oversight and ensure efficient service delivery.
While lauding the department for recording notable achievements since the last strategic meeting, the CS said he remains committed to supporting the realization of ongoing reforms as well strategic priorities geared towards enhancing service delivery including digital transformation of the country’s correctional system.
And as the government moves to ensure all inmates are enrolled into the Social Health Authority to ensure they have full access to Universal Health Coverage, the CS will next week lead a meeting between the department, SHA and the National Registration Bureau to iron out outstanding issues that are derailing the full realization of the endeavor.
According to Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco, the department remains committed to implementing all presidential directives as well as aligning its programmes with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda.
The meeting was also attended by the Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh, Acting Probation and Aftercare Service Secretary Shadrack Kavutai, Directors and head of sections.
