WANINI KIRERI MAGEREZA LEVEL 4 HOSPITAL SET FOR COMMISSIONING
By Nicholas Kigondu
Plans to commission the Wanini Kireri Magereza Level 4 Hospital are on course with technical teams conducting system integration testing following the partial operationalization of the facility in March this year.
The partial operationalization of the hospital saw the facility commence outpatient services with inpatient and other specialized services set to begin once it is commissioned.
On Thursday, Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco met with the hospital’s commissioning committee where she was briefed on the operational readiness of the facility.
The PS called for commitment among the various actors to ensure the facility is fully operational to ensure it delivers on its mandate of providing quality healthcare services for officers and their families as well as members of the public.
The operationalization of the ultra-modern 150-bed capacity level 4 hospital, located at the Kenya Prison Staff Training College in Ruiru, is in direct compliance with the Presidential directive issued during February’s pass-out parade for recruits of the Kenya Prisons Service.
Speaking during the 46th passing-out parade for 3,862 recruits, President William Ruto directed the State Department for Correctional Services to partner with the Kiambu County Government and other government agencies to ensure the facility is operationalized as part of efforts aimed at complementing wider healthcare reforms.
The hospital is equipped with a wide range of modern medical facilities, including an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), radiology and laboratory services, dental and physiotherapy units, a maternity wing, a paediatric ward, and male and female inpatient wards.
