ICRC DONATES EQUIPMENT WORTH 49.5 MILLION, PLEDGE CONTINUED COLLABORATION

State Department for Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr Salome M-Beacco has lauded support from partners saying strategic partnerships remain key in the realization of envisioned transformation within the country’s correctional institutions. 

Speaking at the Kenya Prisons Service Headquarters while receiving donations from International Committee of the Redcross (ICRC) and Kenya Redcross Society worth 49.5 million shillings, the PS appreciated the noble support towards ensuring inmates live in dignified conditions.

"It gives me great pleasure to be here today during this auspicious occasion to receive donations from the International Committee of the Redcross largely meant to contribute towards improvement of the conditions of those in detention," she said. 

The included LMS Emergency Water Treatment Unit, assorted medical and Stationary items which will be distributed to different correctional institutions across the country. 

She also appreciated the support of different stakeholders in infrastructure development, donation of dignity packs, mattresses, blankets and beds among others. 

Acting Head of ICRC Delegation Kenya Cristiana Scano said her organisation remains committed to collaborate with the State Department to preserve the dignity of those in correctional institutions. 

ICRC has previously supported the State Department in other programs including improving quarantine facilities during the Covid-19 pandemic, improving water and sanitation, capacity building for prison officers among other partnerships.
Among those who had accompanied the PS during the ceremony was Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh.
