Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco says the government remains committed to the full implementation of projects, programmes and policies aimed at stimulating socio-economic development.

Speaking on Tuesday during a stakeholder workshop for the validation of the Ministry of Interior and National Administration Strategic Plan (2023-2027), the PS said the ministry is implementing a host of strategies geared towards the achievement of the ministerial mandate of ensuring the country is secure, cohesive and crime-free.

“The plan will also address the country’s development agenda as envisioned in the Fourth Medium Term Plan (MTP 1V), 2023-2027 of Kenya vision 2030 and the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA)’” Observed the PS.

According to the PS, the Ministry through the State Department for Correctional Services envisages to achieve key milestones during 2023-2027 period including review of all laws and policies relating to Correctional Services with a view of aligning them with the 2010 constitutional provision, digitalization of services to enhance service delivery and the establishment of Prisons Enterprise Fund.

The department also plans to acquire title deeds to all correctional services lands, modernize prisons industries, construct 28,000 housing units through the affordable housing program, enhance environment and climate change mitigation through the planting of 100 million trees annually in the correctional facilities across the country as well as coordinate offender rehabilitation, reformation and reintegration.
