EQUITABLE JUSTICE: CORRECTIONAL SERVICES PS PROPOSE ESTABLISHMENT OF A MULTI-AGENCY TECHNICAL WORKING GROUP
By Nicholas Kigondu
Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco is proposing the establishment of a multi-agency technical working group to lead in efforts aimed at entrenching international best practices in the country’s justice system.
Speaking at the National Council on the Administration of Justice special council meeting, that brought together key actors in Kenya’s justice sector, the PS said the team would help draft requisite legal and policy proposals and engage in stakeholder consultations.
She said the Judiciary, office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, National Police Service, Probation and Aftercare Service, Kenya Prisons Service, AG’s office, Community Service Orders and Human rights bodies should be represented in the multi-agency taskforce.
During the meeting, the justice actors reaffirmed their commitment to the Constitution and the rule of law as the foundation for peace and national unity.
This even as they called for enhanced cooperation between the Judiciary, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the National Police Service, IPOA, Civil Society Organizations, and other oversight bodies to ensure law enforcement is effective, accountable, and aligned with constitutional mandates.
