CS MURKOMEN WITNESSES FINAL REHEARSAL OF KPS RECRUITS
By Nicholas Kigondu
Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on Monday witnessed the final rehearsal of the Kenya Prisons Service pass-out parade scheduled for Thursday.
The 3,860 recruits, who joined the Kenya Prisons Staff Training in April last year, have undergone intensive training tailored to equip them with requisite skills to deal with modern demands of corrections work.
The comprehensive training programme combines classroom instruction with practical field experience with the curriculum covering a broad range of subjects including legal and security procedures, conflict resolution, prisoner rehabilitation and financial literacy.
While commending the recruits for their commitment throughout the rigorous training programme, the CS urged them to remain disciplined and patriotic.
“The country has given you an opportunity to serve. Don’t fall into the trap of attacking your country. I implore you to be champions of patriotism.” Implored the Cs.
Among the recruits are 342 technicians who are experts in various fields while 36 cadets are set to graduate later after finalizing their 13-month long intensive training.
Accompanying the Cabinet Secretary were Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco, Commissioner General of Prisons Patrick Aranduh, Acting Probation and Aftercare Service Secretary Shadrack Kavutai and other senior officers from the State Department for Correctional Services.
