It was celebrations of a kind for elderly women from Gatitu in Gatundu South Constituency after Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco gifted them with an assortment of food and non-food items to mark this year’s Mother's Day.

The initiative by the PS, who was accompanied by Roads PS Engineer Joseph Mbugua, Sports PS Elijah Mwangi, Forestry PS Gitonga Mugambi, area MP Gabriel Kagombe, Gatundu North MP Elijah Njoroge and Kiamwangi MCA Kung’u Smart, saw about 1,000 people benefit from the donations.

The donations included 100 bags of rice, 100 bags of beans, 200 blankets, 30 boxes of soap and 5 bales of sanitary towels.

The PS also donated seven tanks with a capacity of 5,000 litres, complete with water guards and purifiers, to five schools and two dispensaries in the area. The residents were also issued with 2,500 seedlings as part of efforts to support the President’s agenda of planting 15 billion trees in the country by 2032.

According to the PS, the initiative to support the vulnerable, is in line with the government’s bottom-up transformation agenda that seeks to onboard everyone in the country’s development agenda.

Earlier, the PS and her team attended mass at Our Lady of Annunciation Gatitu Parish Catholic Church where they called on congregants to register with the Social Health Authority to cushion themselves from possible financial distress arising from medical bills.
