CORRECTIONAL SERVICES PS CALLS FOR INTEGRITY AND PROFICIENCY IN SERVICE DELIVERY

By Nicholas Kotikash

Correctional Services Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco has called for diligence, integrity, and professionalism that she says will ensure citizen-focused correctional services.
Speaking in Naivasha during a meeting with Heads of Departments to review progress on departmental programmes and reinforce performance accountability across the State Department, the PS underscored the critical role of regular engagements in driving institutional efficiency, coherence, and results-based management.
"We must remain committed to delivering our mandate with efficiency, integrity and accountability, while ensuring public resources are used prudently for the benefit of the citizenry," said Dr. Beacco.

The engagement provided a strategic platform to assess ongoing initiatives, strengthen interdepartmental coordination, and ensure alignment with the State Department's mandate and broader government priorities.

Dr. Beacco further reiterated the need for professionalism and accountability in public service, noting that transparency and responsible resource management build public trust and deliver measurable impact.

The PS also officially opened a five-day Human Resource Management and Development sensitization programme for senior officers from the department meant to strengthen institutional capacity, develop skills, and improve operational effectiveness. She urged Heads of Departments to actively participate and apply their new competencies to enhance performance.

Dr. Beacco also urged HODs to adopt structured internal feedback mechanisms, foster cross-directorate collaboration, and proactively address operational challenges with innovative and practical solutions. She reaffirmed the government's commitment to transforming correctional services through stronger governance, enhanced accountability, and efficient service delivery.
