The State Department for Correctional Services is finalizing plans for the commissioning of the Wanini Kireri Magereza Level IV Hospital in Ruiru.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the facility, Principal Secretary Dr. Salome Beacco said the hospital has complied with virtually all requirements with outstanding obligations set to be finalized within the next few days.
The 150-bed facility located at the Kenya Prison Staff Training College, which will operate akin to the KDF hospital model, has already commenced outpatient services following its operationalization in March.
The facility has already been integrated with Social Health Authority’s Usalama cover Public Officers Medical Scheme which will provide comprehensive outpatient, inpatient, maternity, specialized care, and emergency evacuation for officers within the State Department and their dependents.
The hospital boasts of key sections among them the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), High Dependency Unit (HDU), Radiology unit, Dental unit, maternity wing, male and female wards and a pediatric ward and will offer various services including dental and renal services.
The facility is named after the late Wanini Kireri, a former Prison Staff Training College Commandant and the first Woman Commandant of Prisons Staff Training College.
